14-15.03.2024 “NATIONAL TRADITIONS OF THE GREAT STEPPE” II International Scientific Forum

On March 14-15, 2024, the Central State Museum of the Republic of Kazakhstan held the 2nd international scientific forum “NATIONAL TRADITIONS OF THE GREAT STEPPE”, dedicated to the national holiday “Nauryz Meiramy”.

The international forum discussed issues related to the common history, cultural and linguistic uniqueness of the Turkic-speaking peoples, as well as prospects for interaction in all areas of scientific and cultural cooperation.

The purpose of the forum: to popularize the ethnic history and cultural heritage of Turkic-speaking peoples.

The plenary session was opened by the head of the department of museum activities and intangible cultural heritage of the Committee of Culture of the Ministry of Culture and Information of the Republic of Kazakhstan Pazylova Gulzeynep Anafiyakyzy, who noted in his congratulatory speech: “This forum is a major scientific and cultural event in which topical issues of the history of ethnogenesis, the study of the culture and art of Turkic-speaking peoples are discussed. The forum promotes the popularization of knowledge about the ethnic history and cultural heritage of all Turkic peoples. The deep meaning of the ancient spring holiday, which is still relevant today, is also promoted. Therefore, I believe that the forum, which brought together scientists and museum specialists not only from Kazakhstan, but also from Central Asia, will contribute to the popularization of this national holiday, and will also help to develop joint ideas and experience for the scientific study of its history and uniqueness, and will help to implement it on practice".

A congratulatory speech to the forum participants was made by a Doctor of Historical Science, Head of the Department for Relations with Turkic-Speaking Communities of International organization "TURKSOY" Movsyumlyu Javid Elshad oglu, Consul General of the Republic of Turkey in Almaty Evren Muderrisoglu, Director of the Central State Museum of the Republic of Kazakhstan R.Ye. Kharipova.

Within the II international scientific forum “NATIONAL TRADITIONS OF THE GREAT STEPPE”, the head of the department for relations with Turkic-speaking communities of the International organization TURKSOY, the chief coordinator of the Association of Museums of TURKSOY Movsyumlu Javid Elshad ogly awarded the medal of the international organization TURKSOY to the deputy director of the Central State Museum for scientific work Galia Temirton and an international trainer WFTGA, Honored Worker of the Sphere of Culture and Tourism Bakhyt Kamalkyzy for his contribution to the popularization of the cultural, historical and spiritual heritage of the Turkic civilization, in strengthening the unity of the Turkic peoples, as well as in the propaganda and promotion of Turkic culture.

As part of the forum, the grand opening of the ethnographic exhibition          “EDUCATION STARTS FROM A CRADLE” took place. The main goal of the exhibition is to popularize the heritage of the Kazakh people from Turkic times to the present day, the national educational system and methods of education that have shaped its future for centuries. 

The exhibition features 11 cradles and more than 70 additional exhibits. Among them are several tubeks and shumeks, special devices for babies, found in the ancient settlements of Saraishyk and Talgar. The oldest exhibit is a willow cradle made without nails. This unique relic was donated to the museum fund by the famous traveler and photographer Taimas Kuanyshuly Nurtayev. Also on display was a wooden cradle, processed with a chisel, made in 1904 in the village of Vanovka, Tulkibas district, South Kazakhstan region. It was made especially for the girl Azharkul, the daughter of Tilmembet Zholshybek from the Zhudyryk clan of the Senior Zhuz. After Azharkul, the cradle was also used by her sisters, her own daughter, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In total, over the course of one century, this cradle was used by 26 children of four generations. It was found by museum staff during an expedition in Ural region in 1987. Also during the forum, a citizen named Algazy Ernat donated a cradle made in 1957 to the museum fund. 

The exhibition will last until April 15 . 

The international forum will continue with the lecture “EXCURSION AS THE MAIN FORM OF CULTURAL AND EDUCATIONAL 
ACTIVITIES OF A MUSEUM” at Ykylas Museum of Folk Instruments on March 15.

The forum was attended by employees of scientific organizations, teachers of educational institutions, representatives of the creative intelligentsia, specialists from museums, archives, libraries, young scientists, bachelors, masters, doctoral students studying the history and culture of the Turkic world, as well as other interested parties.
