The exhibition "Armin Vambery - Hungarian Explorer of the Turkic World"The exhibition was prepared on the basis of materials from the Oriental Collection of the Library of the Hungarian Academy and is dedicated to Armin Vambery - researcher, academician, professor, founder of the Hungarian Geographical Society, collector-bibliophile, one of the founders of Turkish and Persian manuscript collections.

Armin Vambery (1832-1913) - was born in Hungary into a Jewish family. From childhood, through self-study, he learned many Eastern and European languages, which allowed him to achieve great results in scientific activity. He began his career in Istanbul, where his first book, The German-Turkish Dictionary, was published.

Vambery became famous in the eyes of the Hungarian public as a scientist-traveler. Traveling around Central Asia, he collected a large number of unique and valuable ethnographic and linguistic materials on the Turkic peoples, thanks to which he became an expert in the field of Turkic philology and a world-renowned orientalist, recognized as an expert on the Turkic world.

The exhibition consists of 9 thematic blocks that reveal the life and scientific activity of the scientist: "Armin Vambery – Hungarian explorer of the Turkic world" (1832-1913), "Thorns, poverty and suffering", " By teaching, we learn", "We need to find a solution", "On Persian soil", "In tattered clothes of a dervish", "My Tatar friend "," Scientist among scientists "," I saw three continents. "

The program of the event: an official opening of the exhibition, speech of the Director of the Central State Museum of the Republic of Kazakhstan - Nursan Alimbay, Consul General of Hungary in Almaty - Ferenc Blaumann; an orientalist historian, professor, academician of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan - Kumekov Bulat Eshmukhambetovich; musical performance by students of school №154.

The exhibition is organized with the support of the Ministry of Foreign Economic Relations and Foreign Affairs of Hungary and the Budapest Permanent Mission of the Turkic Council on the occasion of the 9th Summit of the Turkic Council planned in Turkestan.

The exhibition will last till July 12, 2021.
